Responsive, knowledgeable, witty, direct, and approachable are all words that can describe Windham County Sheriff Mark Anderson. He showed all this as well as his sincerity and concern about the community when he spoke at a recent public forum in Putney on the Fair and Impartial Police Act. For the last four years, I have served as Chair of the Sheriff’s Advisory group of Windham County residents of all ages who advise Mark and inform him of the needs and concerns of county residents. It is clear that Mark practices and believes in effective “Community Policing,” which keeps him and his officers out among residents to serve them best. He puts Windham County residents and their rights first and foremost, and we are fortunate to have this man of character, compassion, and capability as our Sheriff.

I have had the pleasure of working with Sheriff Anderson for nine years: first as a consultant helping with some kinks in the organization, then as a member of his Advisory Group. Through all of that time and the many different issues we’re faced together, Sheriff Anderson has been steady, dedicated, and visionary. He has made the Windham County Sheriff's Department his life’s work, which gives him a deep sense of purpose that carries him through many of the issues that confront him daily. His accompanying vision, evidenced by the Regional Policing initiative, is broad and carefully thought through. Windham County is lucky to have a leader like him.
